The fair receives its first face

Pierre-Yves likes the moment when a fair exists first as a promise: a poster in the eye, dates in the diary, and an empty Glacis beginning to behave like a memory.

The poster is not the fair, he writes from Belair. It is the city's first agreement to expect one.

A face before the lights

The City says the Schueberfouer 2026 will start on Friday, 21 August, at Champ du Glacis, with daily opening hours from 12:00 to 01:00 and catering establishments allowed to open from 11:00.

Before the rides and stalls arrive, the fair has already been given a visual face. The City's fifth poster competition received 83 projects by 13 April 2026. The winning entries are assigned to the 2026, 2027 and 2028 editions, with Amarylis Hibon's poster leading this year's communication.

Programme as choreography

Pierre-Yves reads the programme less as a list than as choreography. Inauguration, mayors' day, family prices, Lämmy afternoons, Braderie and last-day half fare distribute attention so the fair does not have to mean only one kind of night.

That matters because the Schueberfouer is both huge and domestic. It is Luxembourg's largest funfair, but it also asks small practical questions: where a stroller passes, where a child is registered if lost, where the rubbish goes before the first visitor arrives.

The old machine warms up

The fair's history is older than the city habits around it. The official background ties the tradition to John the Blind's 1340 charter and to the vigil of St Bartholomew, which still pulls the opening toward late August.

For Pierre-Yves, the poster makes that long machine visible without pretending to be it. A blank Glacis can already hold a Ferris wheel in the mind. That is how a city rehearses an annual ritual: first paper, then route, then light.
